I have administered and used TCP/IP network in University of Jos, Nigeria where connections to faculties are via fibre optic and at the Access/User layers we have Ethernet Cat5/5e/6 with Cisco Catalyst Switches for client connection. At the distribution layer, we have DHCP server (Linux based) that serve all the VLANs. Before 2010, our TCP/IP network was based on Private IP NAT implementation but now we have deployed the blocks of public IP Addresses we acquired from AfriNIC.

My current employer is university of Jos, Nigeria. I head the Network & Internet Services department of the ICT Directorate in University of Jos, Nigeria my duties and responsibilities include coordinating the following units of the department: Wired & Wireless; Server & Network Services; Network Security, e-Services. At the same time, I work with the server & Network Services and Security units as member of those units daily to ensure network and service availability for staff and students. I play a vital role in network operators workshops (ngNOG)in Nigeria right from the inception. Also as a full member of Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) and Computer Professional registry of Nigeria (CPN), I have been involve in the networking trainings organized by these bodies around the country as a facilitator/instructor and will continue to serve under this capacity.

I have been trained in many professional trainings like Cisco CCNP, CCDP and even AfNOG so these I hope will give me the basic to cope with the AfNOG Network Monitoring and Management track. Also, my six years experience as systems administrator of a large university network of three campuses will give me the fundamentals to flow well in this track.

I plan to disseminate the knowledge and experience gain from this workshop as follows:
1. Teach my colleagues back in University of Jos who are not opportune to attain
2. Use it to solve and overcome most of the problems we face daily in managing the university network and services and better manage our limited bandwidth
2. Share the knowledge and experience gain with colleagues in national workshops and training like JosNOG, ngNOG, NCS, CPN and Application of ICT to Teaching, Research and Administration (AICTTRA) in Nigeria higher institutions.

I was able to influenced Plateau State Polytechnic to built a Data Centre with basic services running for use by both staff and students. Before the commencement, I consult for them and trained their technical staff on managing the Data Centre. Currently I am working with them to develop students portal so that their registration next session will be online.
We have received staffs from Nasarawa State University, Benue State University and College of Education Akwanga, Nasarawa State on Internship who work directly in my department to learn best practices; presently a lot of changes had been recorded in their institutions as a result of this and remote assistance I do offer to them.
